About hccl
Welcome to Hancock County Conservation League—a community built on respect, responsibility, and a shared commitment to preserving our outdoor heritage. We believe that safe, ethical shooting practices are the foundation of responsible firearm ownership. Every event, training session, and range day we host is guided by the fundamental NRA rules for safe gun handling: always treating every firearm as loaded, keeping the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, keeping your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot, and knowing your target and what lies beyond it.
Our club promotes ongoing education, structured training, and mentorship for shooters of all experience levels. We emphasize safe handling, proper storage, situational awareness, and adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations.
We also strongly encourage our members to support the National Rifle Association (NRA), an organization that advocates for firearm safety training, competitive shooting sports, and the protection of lawful gun ownership. Through NRA-backed safety courses and educational resources, our members gain access to nationally recognized training standards and opportunities to further develop their skills responsibly.
By joining our club, you become part of a community dedicated not only to shooting sports and conservation, but to upholding the highest standards of safety, stewardship, and respect for the traditions we value.

Our Ranges
Pistol
Our outdoor pistol range is designed for both comfort and performance. A covered shooting shelter provides protection from sun, wind, and rain so you can train in a variety of conditions. Rubber stall mats at each shooting position make spent brass easy to collect and help keep the range clean and organized.
The range is built with well‑maintained grass berms for safe backstops and features steel targets for immediate feedback and an engaging shooting experience. Whether you’re practicing fundamentals or refining your skills, our pistol range offers a safe, practical, and enjoyable environment for shooters of all experience levels.

Rifle
Our rifle range is designed to accommodate shooters of all experience levels, offering clearly marked 25‑yard, 50‑yard, and 100‑yard lanes for everything from sight‑in work to precision practice.
A covered shooting area provides protection from the elements, allowing for comfortable shooting in a variety of weather conditions. Sturdy benches offer stable support for zeroing and accuracy work, while a graveled pathway makes it easy and safe to walk downrange when setting or checking targets.
Snow fencing is installed downrange for convenient target placement, giving members flexibility for paper targets and training setups. Built with safety and practicality in mind, our rifle range provides a reliable, well‑maintained space for responsible and enjoyable shooting.

HIstory
The Hancock County Conservation League was incorporated in 1929 with a mission to conserve wildlife, uphold state game laws, and respect the rights of landowners and farmers whose lands we are privileged to use for hunting.
The club was founded by a group of forward-thinking hunters, who were among the first in Ohio to restock the raccoon population, ensuring future generations could enjoy the tradition of night hunting with hounds.
What now serves as the Hancock County Conservation League clubhouse originally began as the Center Chapel Church, located at the corner of Township Roads 179 and 168 in Eagle Township. The building was later moved a quarter mile east to its current location.
Today, HCCL is a firearm and shooting club with approximately 100 member families. We strongly encourage membership in the National Rifle Association and continue to promote safe, responsible outdoor recreation and conservation.
